Who will be performing the scan?

The scan will be performed by a trained and qualified MSK sonographer.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No, a referral is not needed. We have listed some of the most common reasons why you may require an MSK ultrasound scan. If you are not sure, you can get in touch with us and we will advise you on what is most appropriate for you symptoms.

Can I eat immediately before my examination?

Yes, you can. Our scanning procedures are not affected by a meal prior to your exam.

Are there any special preparations that I should be aware about?

No, there are none. For the majority of our scans, only loose clothing is required. If necessary, we   will provide you a gown for any examinations requiring further positioning.

Can I bring a friend or relative with me?

Yes, we welcome you to have your examination done in the presence of your chosen company.

Is there a minimum age requirement?

Our services are provided for adults of 18 years and above.

Is there any disabled access?

We are sorry, but at the moment we are not able to offer any disbled access. However, it is a service we areworking towards providing.

What are some common uses of the procedure?

Ultrasound images are typically used to help diagnose:

  • tendon tears or tendinitis of the rotator cuff in the shoulder, Achilles tendon in the ankle and many other tendons throughout the body.

  • muscle tears, masses or fluid collections.

  • ligament sprains or tears.

  • inflammation or fluid (effusions) within the bursae and joints.

  • early changes of rheumatoid arthritis.

  • nerve entrapments such as carpal tunnel syndrome.

  • ganglion cysts.

  • foreign bodies in the soft tissues (such as splinters or glass).

What does the equipment look like?

Ultrasound scanners consist of a console containing a computer, a video display screen and a transducer that is used to do the scanning. 

Are there any risks to the exam?

For standard diagnostic ultrasound, there are no known harmful effects on humans
